A few weeks ago at Gen Con, I interviewed Felicia Day to talk about The Guild’s anniversary movie and The Guild’s card game, Swords & Sweethearts (Gen Con article and interview available HERE) Earlier that day, Felicia has announced that one of the stretch goals for the movie’s Kickstarter campaign was to fund a new show with Wil Wheaton called Conludo. My focus for that Gen Con interview was to discuss the card game and the Guild’s TTRPG, but the brief mention of Conludo was intriguing. After we both got home from Gen Con, Felicia and I managed to wrangle everyone together and hop on a call with Wil to talk exclusively about Conludo.
Our conversation was surprisingly poignant for me, as we talked about how games can bring us together and counter the barrage of negative events and emotions of the last 10 years. While I’m sure many of us will enjoy their new show for ourselves, Conludo is a project for Wil and Felicia themselves: a framework to come together as friends, tell some stories, and do an activity they both happen to love – playing tabletop games. I think amidst the FOMO, Cult of the New, shelfies, convention hauls, and crowdfunding, it is easy to forget that games can have such an impact on relationships and mental health. This conversation reminded me WHY I’m proud to be in the board game industry and that was an unexpected outcome for a quick conversation on a Friday afternoon.
The Guild’s Kickstarter campaign runs through Aug 21, and includes funding to support filming both the movie and episodes of Conludo.
