In December 2021, asmodee made “a strategic investment” in game publisher Exploding Kittens, purchasing a 55% majority stake in the company, although as far as I know the details of the deal weren’t made public at that time.

On December 22, 2025, asmodee announced that it has carried out “its previously communicated intention” and “exercised its call option to acquire the remaining 45% minority stake in Exploding Kittens Inc.”, with the purchase price of that minority stake to be determined based on the company’s performance from January to December 2025. Acquisition will take place in the first half of 2026.

The press release from asmodee concludes with this unsurprising line: “Exploding Kittens Inc. is already consolidated within the asmodee group.”
